Embracing Challenges and Welcoming Spring: A Glamping Adventure at The Dandelion Hideaway.

As the first quarter of 2024 draws to a close, it's been a memorable time marked by unexpected challenges and heartwarming moments at The Dandelion Hideaway. With over 250mm of rainfall this year, farming has posed its challenges, yet amidst it all, the team has rallied together to prepare our beloved glamping site for Easter guests.

Amidst the bustling preparations, there's an air of anticipation as Polly, alongside the dedicated team, diligently readies the tents for the upcoming season. Despite Polly expecting our second child in the next 6-7 weeks, her dedication and tireless efforts reflect the spirit of hospitality that defines The Dandelion Hideaway.

Our team, from Butler and Broom, demonstrates unparalleled attention to detail, ensuring that every aspect of our guests' experience is nothing short of extraordinary. Ottilie's meticulous care extends to testing the new play area and preparing our Forest School area, promising memorable experiences for our visitors.

As we welcome spring on the farm, the landscape transforms with maize being planted and wheat crops flourishing. Excitement brews as we venture into cultivating sunflowers, a new addition to our agricultural endeavors.

The anticipation of having guests back on the farm for Easter is palpable, and our animals eagerly await their return. With new additions like two playful calves and a litter of piglets, alongside familiar favorites like Dandy and Badger, our Shetland ponies, and the newest member, Tulula, a charming pony aiding Ottilie in crop inspections, the farm brims with life and vitality. From sheep to cows, goats to chickens, each resident eagerly anticipates the arrival of both new and returning guests.

At The Dandelion Hideaway, amidst the challenges and triumphs, we look forward to creating unforgettable memories and weaving stories of joy and adventure under the open sky. As spring unfolds its splendor, join us in embracing the beauty of nature and the warmth of hospitality at The Dandelion Hideaway.

What can beat a UK Summer? Birdsong, beer gardens, Al Fresco Dining. Looking at the weather today – snow, ice and rain – I cannot wait. I have also made a mental note to book abroad for some Winter Sun next year! Who wouldn’t like a bit more money in the bank to go somewhere exotic when we really need it?

Wow 2023 already feels like it is flying by. It has been a very busy start to the year. I was lucky enough to be able to attend the Oxford Farming Conference. Which hosted some inspirational speakers. Samantha Kinghorn MBE, the Double Paralympic Medallist was hugely inspiring in how she has adapted to life changing injuries.

January is always a quiet start to the year, all autumn planting is done, and cover crops are well established. The cover crops provide our maize ground (which will be planted in the spring) with ground cover to reduce erosion and help protect our soils, whilst also adding and locking up nutrients at the same time.
